2002 Yamaha Grizzly 660

Used the camper money to get an ATV for pla…er work around the house and a 7×12 trailer.

It is a 2002 Yamaha Grizzly 660 with 14″ ITP Mud Lites and a plow. I got a box, fender flares, and replaced the grips so far.

1987 Fleetwood Prowler 24P Table/Desk Build

The original fold up table by the front bed was gone when I got the camper. I’ve been using a TV Tray which works fine for putting out of the way when not in use.

You can skim the photos or read on for all the details.

Reclaimed a nice piece of wood that was some kind of sewing jig. Primed and painted then attached with a piano hinge I had laying around.

I wanted a solid leg knowing I’d run into it now and then so I measured height and cut a 2×4 to length. Attached it with a small, 4-screw hinge from my stash and a pad to protect the hardwood.

Stowed it with a flexible piece of ripped poplar about 1/4″ thick reclaimed from a pallet I found at the dump. Final product made completely Reclaimed and extra material!

Here’s a before and after.

Some more after pics.

I have some custom trim also made by my neighbor with routed edges and everything that I need to sand and paint. So the front 1/3 is painted and looking great. Now to move on to prepping the back for a fresh coat to match.

Part of keeping busy for me when not at a keyboard has been woodworking. I have tried to find different things to create with old pallets destined for the landfill.

Through trial and error, I have a wine balancer that will hole 750ml or 1.5l bottles. I coat some with natural stain to keep the original look and some with Dark Walnut which really brings out the grain and makes a fancy look.

Second, I measured out and made a wine glass caddy that hangs on bottle neck and glasses hang from slots in wood. These are also in natural and Dark Walnut stain so far.

Lastly, I use the wider slats to design and make simple birdhouses. They can be screwed into fence posts or gently strapped to a tree to minimize impact on the environment. My daughter beautifully paints some and others I leave untreated.

1987 Fleetwood Prowler Towing Equipment Drawer

Took me all day but I figured out how to make a towing equipment drawer from scrap wood and re-purposed material from an old, heavy duty office filing cabinet.

You can skim the photos or read on for all the details.

I used some leftover trim to attach the rails on and an old (I think 1/2″) piece of plywood for the base and used some of an old filing cabinet wood for the sides.

Then I cut up the face of one of the old filing cabinet drawers and screwed to the front of the drawer. Finished it with another piece of plywood angled for the back. Whole thing fits nice and snug and slides smoothly.

The drawer handles the weight of the equipment with no problem. I added a small chain I had around with a randon metal bracket to hold it closed until I get something more permanent while on the road.

Final product turned out great! The rails are as heavy duty as they felt and hold up great to all the towing equipment in the drawer.

1987 Fleetwood Prowler 24P decor, finish/trim work and organizing

I have been able to do some little projects that add up to significant visual changes in the camper. First I used the last piece of fabric the PO left to make a curtain for the big window. Then I covered the dinette seat with panelling. Finally, I used leftover material to make a drawer organizer.

You can skim the album pictures or read below for all the details.

I used the same technique as the other two curtains. Fold the top over itself about three times so the length is consistent then use the pointy hook thingys and poke through the fabric to hold everything in place. Finally, put each hook into an eyelet in the track under the valence. I also re-used some weird angle hooks that were on the bottom of each side. I mounted both on one side, upper and lower, so the curtain is held out of the way while open. Haven’t decided if I’ll remove blinds or just leave them raised all the time.

Next project was to cover the dinette seat framing! Been looking at that for too long. It isn’t my best work but now I have a surface to mount electrical gadgets since the battery feed, fuse box and converter are all under there.

My last and favorite project was using up leftover panelling to make drawer dividers. Cut to length then half way on each slat so they “linked” together for a secure fit. Has some non-slip stuff I put underneath and the result is a much more organized utensil drawer!

I did a little troubleshooting on the fridge also. Found a bad fuse and replaced so I was then able to see voltage with the multi-meter throughout the system while on shore power. Unfortunately, it will didn’t get below 45 in there so that wasn’t the problem. Going to do some more research and really try to get it working before I rip it out and just mount the dorm fridge, that the PO gave me with the camper, in place of the factory refrigerator.

On a plus, I heat myself out of the space with the electric radiator header in this freezing weather if I’m not paying attention while using the camper as an office. I put a wireless router in a nearby bedroom window to get a good signal in there to work. I will likely build a local web server to work off of in the summer so I can continue to code offline from wherever I may roam! Look for a Raspberry Pi web server post in my Tech category!

Quick Camper Updates Post

Wow it has been busy and I see I really need to get better about posting regularly.

Camper has long been winterized. I have seen multiple postings that recommend moving your camper every 2-3 months to help with tire preservation so I recently took it around the block to roll the tires around.

Move the vehicle at least every three months to help prevent ozone cracking and flat-spotting, but avoid moving it during extremely cold weather. – https://www.campingworld.com/tips/rv-tire-care/45

Before parking by the house again, I cut some 2″ thick, sealed bed boards to length to put under the tires to keep them off the dirt. Little more wobbly being up on the boards so now I’m looking into levelling jacks.

Before winter, I had tested the Harbor Freight 45W solar panel kit and everything checked out great after plugging into the camper system. Here’s a few more pictures of it all hooked up to the camper.

Another addition was a Chirstmas present from my mom and dad, an LED light strip with remote! Lights up the couch/bed area very brightly and I mounted the remote next to the door so I can turn it on to enter the camper rather than fumble around on the ceiling for the overhead.

Ready for some boondocking!!
